Charges in Westerville PD Shootings, One Officer from Massillon

WESTERVILLE, Ohio (WHBC) – A local connection to the shootings of two police officers in suburban Columbus, with the accused shooter now facing charges.

Officer Tony Morelli was killed while responding to a 911 hang up call in Westerville.

Officer Eric Joering was also shot to death.

Morelli was born in Hawaii, but grew up on the west side of Massillon and played football for the Tigers.

He graduated from Washington High in 1982.

Quentin Smith is charged with aggravated murder.

He remained hospitalized after one of the two officers was still able to fire a few shots.
