CLEVELAND, OH – Major League Baseball and Louisville Slugger tonight announced the recipients of the 2019 American League Silver Slugger Awards.  1B CARLOS SANTANA captured his first career Silver Slugger, becoming the only first baseman in club history to capture the honor.

Santana, 33, enjoyed a career season in 2019, batting .281 (161-for-573) with 30 doubles, 1 triple, 34 home runs and 93 RBI in 158 games (.397/.515/.911).  The 2019 American League All-Star amassed career-highs in bWAR (4.5), runs, hits, RBI and OPS and led the club in runs, home runs, RBI, walks, on-base pct. and OPS.  Among AL leaders he finished third in the league in on-base pct. and walks (108) and tied for sixth in runs scored.  Additionally, Alex Bregman and Juan Soto were the only other Major League hitters with at least 30 doubles, 30 homers, 100 runs scored and 100 walks in 2019.  The 10-year Major League veteran now ranks third in franchise history in career base on balls (834) and eighth in career home runs (208) over his nine seasons in Cleveland.

The voting, which was conducted in late September, is a compilation of votes among Major League coaches and managers.
