AAA: Early School Starts Impacting Labor Day Travel

DAYTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – With the kids now going back to school well before Labor Day, the holiday weekend has become the most insignificant of the three Summer holidays as far as travel goes.

In fact, AAA doesn’t even predict a raw travel figure for the weekend any longer.

They do say that travel is up nine-percent this year despite a two-percent increase in travel costs from Labor Day 2023.

Air travel expenses are down two-percent, but hotel expenses have jumped seven-percent in the last year.

Gasoline prices in Canton-Massillon are down only slightly from last year, though the difference nationally is more significant.

Kara Hitchens with AAA in Ohio says it’ll still be busy out there.

She recommends making plans for traffic, especially in larger cities.
