Susan Shumsky (www.drsusan.org), author of Maharishi & Me: Seeking Enlightenment with the Beatles’ Guru, spoke to Gary Rivers about the 1968 visit to India by the Beatles.

She speaks with authority, as she herself was under the tutelage of Maharishi for 22 years and was on his personal staff for six years. Shumsky is featured in the upcoming documentary, The Beatles and India.

During the nostalgic conversation, she spoke of the role the Hindu religious leader played in the lives of the Beatles and other musicians, and how the Hindu religion shaped not only their music, but also the spiritual lives of many in the US.

  • How did the Beatles first connect with Maharishi and become involved in Transcendental Meditation?
  • How were Maharishi and Indian culture able to influence their music at that time?
  • What are the reasons the Beatles left Maharishi in a huff?
