Big Year for West Nile Among Canton Mosquito Population, More Spraying Next Week
CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – It’s been a busy season for West Nile Virus in Canton.
And the city’s health department is prepared to spray for mosquitoes in all four quadrants of the city starting on Monday.
Environmental Health Supervisor Gus Drea with the department says he’s seen more West Nile positives this year than in any of his previous four years in the job.
Drea says conditions have been spot-on this year: a mild Winter, wet Spring and hot Summer.
It fortunately has not translated into any confirmed human cases.
Still, Drea says healthy people can have a few symptoms, actually have the virus, and never know it.
