(News/Talk 1480 WHBC) – Some young people are spending their summer making Canton a cleaner place.

The Canton Ambassadors program includes 20 people hired by the city to clean on a daily basis.

Deputy Mayor Fonda Williams says the program started on Monday and they’re already making an impact.

“It was fun to see business owners come out and ask what they were doing, and take pictures of them and thank them for cleaning up the city.”

Williams says 95 percent of the young people in the program are McKinley graduates and are currently attending college or will start college in the fall.

He says the group is based out of the Southeast Community Center and thanked SARTA for providing their transportation to their work assignments.

The group will work on cleaning up Canton through early August.

“They’re very, very positive people and we’re looking forward to great things from them.”
