CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – It’s an extension of the effort to bring back the neighborhood school plan in the Canton City Schools.
The district is one of 16 in the country to receive millions of dollars from the Department of Energy to upgrade heating and air conditioning systems, lighting and more to reduce energy costs.
The district is building new Souers and Mason elementary buildings, but six older neighborhood schools remain in the system with needed upgrades.
And nine other buildings will share in the $11.5 million-plus grant.
The DOE program is the 2024 Renew America’s Schools Prize and Grant.
Canton City is the only district in Ohio to “win” funding.
