Canton Officers’ Indictment Explained in Frank Tyson Death

CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – It’s believed two white Canton police officers will be arraigned on Friday.

They are charged with reckless homicide in the in-custody death of 53-year-old Frank Tyson of Canton Township back in April.

Tyson was Black.

24-year-olds Camden Burch and Beau Schoenegge were booked into the Stark County jail this past Friday, after being indicted on the charges by a session of the Stark County grand jury.

Stark County Prosecutor Kyle Stone in a press conference Saturday said the case is on Common Pleas Judge Kristin Farmer’s docket.

Tyson was being arrested in the AMVETS club on Sherrock Road SE in Canton Township when the officers used restraint measures that contributed to his death, according to the preliminary autopsy report.

Tyson also had cocaine and alcohol in his system.

Police were called to the club to remove Tyson.

About fifty community members joined the media at the press conference.
