Canton Plans to Revive SW City Park

Canton, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – It’s a large open area with little evidence remaining that it’s a Canton city park.

That’s going to change.

City Council has agreed to spend $73,000 in Issue-13 money to install a modern playground next Spring at Stark-Wayne Schrader Park at Stark Avenue and 19th Street SW.

5th Ward Councilman Robert Fisher also envisions wildflowers and chestnut trees in some of the vacant land there.

Fisher says the park and neighborhood have been in decline since the Route 30 freeway was brought through decades ago.

He says to make the park safer, vehicular access needs to be limited and fencing needs to be replaced.
