CANTON (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – The Canton Police Department is looking for new members; not for the force by for its youth program. The Canton Police Youth Corp offers area youth the opportunity to experience what occurs in modern day policing

Those interested must be between the ages of 14-21 and have completed the eighth grade. The program is completely free. Officers just ask that members have a clean pair of black pants and shoes.

In addition to insight from officers and guest speakers, members will get to assist police with activities such as Light Up Downtown, the Memorial Day Parade, and all the Pro Football Hall of Fame events.

Officer Chris Wells says the Youth Corp is an ideal program for those interested in one day becoming a police officer, but it is beneficial for others as well. Skills like leadership, team work and problem solving are taught through the program.

There will be an open house at the Canton Police Department on Wednesday, November 13 from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Interested members who are under 18 must have a parent/guardian to be present at the open house.

Applications will be available at the open house or on the Canton Police website. The Canton Police Youth Corp has 12 current members and is able to have up to 30.
