CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – Not sure this has anything to do with the pandemic, but sexually-transmitted illnesses especially syphillis are on the increase.
In the eight-county region that includes Stark, Carroll and Tuscarawas, the number of syphilis cases in the first quarter jumped from 19 last year to 33 this year.
One was a congenital case where a baby was born with it.
Canton Public Health reminds you that you can be tested for free and get free medication.
This does by law include anyone ages 13 and up, so a teenager can be tested for a sexually-transmitted infection without the consent of a parent.
You can make an appointment or call and ask for the “phone nurse” at 330 489-3322.
