CCSD Chief Says Bond Issue Passage to Bring Back Neighborhood School Model

CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – Canton City School District voters have approved a $60 million bond issue to build two new elementary buildings at the Souers and Mason school sites.

So what’s next?

Superintendent Jeff Talbert says committees will be formed to garner feedback from students, faculty and the community, so that the K-6 buildings perform best for everyone.

It’s a move back to the neighborhood school model.

The result will be eight such neighborhood buildings throughout the district.

Schools that aren’t part of the plan will be repurposed, sold as required by law, or taken down if a buyer can’t be found.

Based on the way the bond issuance works, Talbert says the new buildings could be open for the 2026-2027 school year.
