CFD Chief: Projects That Support Work, Health of Firefighters
CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – With full-time firefighters working long shifts, the Canton Fire Department is among the fire services assisting with the physical and mental health of its staff.
Canton Fire Chief Akbar Bennett says they are moving ahead with plans to remodel the gymnasium in the basement of the main fire station on Market Avenue S.
Bennett hopes it’ll become a gathering point for firefighters from all around the city.
Chief Bennett also says they are looking at hiring a nutritionist, since firefighters prepare their own meals.
As far as new firefighting equipment, a new ambulance and two new fire trucks are arriving at the end of the year.
Also, work remodeling the number-eight station on Dueber Avenue SW is nearly complete, with work set to begin soon at number-seven on Mahoning Road NE.
