(News/Talk 1480 WHBC) – A fire at an apartment building kept the Canton Fire Department busy early Thursday morning.

Fire damage was contained to one unit, but the other four occupied units in the 2-story building were sent outside.

The department says working smoke detectors alerted everyone, so all escaped without injury.

Damage to the impacted apartment is set at $24,000.

There was some heat and smoke damage throughout the building.

The Fire Prevention Bureau is investigating.

The resident of the heavily-impacted unit is staying with relatives.

The owner tells the Canton Fire Department he will rehabilitate that unit.
