(News/Talk 1480 WHBC) – Oh deer!

There are so many deer in Alliance that they’re damaging people’s yards and eating up their flower beds and gardens.

What’s making it worse is that some residents are feeding the deer.

“They think they’re helping them, or they look nice or something,” said 4th Ward City Councilman Jim Edwards.

But he says what may be an innocent act of feeding the deer is only encouraging them to stick around and look for even more food.

And he says it’s been so wet the deer can do a lot of damage to yards.

“One person told me they had $2,000 worth of landscaping damaged.”

Some people have asked the city to pass on ordinance prohibiting the feeding of deer.

The city is holding a special town hall meeting Monday July 1st at 6 p.m. in council chambers at 470 East Market Street to hear from residents to better understand the scope of the problem and decide how to proceed.
