AKRON (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – A local business owner in Cuyahoga Falls is set to find out the true meaning of a dollar. On Monday, Jeffery Straughan, the owner of East of Chicago Pizza on State Road in Cuyahoga Falls, was found guilty of three charges after shooting a customer who he believed stole a dollar out of the restaurant’s tip jar.

Staughan was found guilty by a Summit County Jury on the following charges:

  • Felonious Assault with a Gun Specification – a felony of the 2nd degree
  • Improper Discharge of a Firearm on a Prohibited Premises with a Gun Specification – a felony of the third degree
  • Aggravated menacing – a misdemeanor of the 1st degree

Straughan originally chased the 38-year-old man out of his store before confronting him and then shooting him. The shooting took place on August 14, 2018 at Portage Crossing Shopping Center. No one was seriously injured in the altercation. Straughan is scheduled to be sentenced on by Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Alison Breaux on August 26.
