DeWine: Volunteer Departments Need Firefighters

COLUMBUS, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – There are 400 open positions for firefighters across the state.

Governor Mike DeWine has started a public service announcement campaign to encourage more people to volunteer.

The governor says not all the positions involve firefighting.

There are grant writers, procurement experts, and other non-“combat” needs.

70-percent of Ohio’s fire departments are staffed by volunteers.
