Downtown Youngstown Building Explosion Kills 1, Injures 7

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – A man is dead and seven people were injured in an explosion on the ground floor of a residential building in downtown Youngstown Tuesday afternoon.

The blast heavily damaged two sides of the 13-story Realty Tower Building which housed a Chase Bank branch on the first floor.

The 27-year-old victim pulled from the basement of the building was an employee of the bank.

One of the hospitalized was initially listed in critical condition.

Residents of the apartments and condominiums are not permitted back in the building until its structural integrity can be checked out.

It’s believed the explosion was natural-gas-related, but that’s not certain yet.

The ground floor facade on two sides of the building was torn off by the explosion.
