(News/Talk 1480 WHBC) – A family in Green whose driveway was washed away by flash flooding is taking to social media to raise the money for repairs.

The Dowey family says the city told them they can’t help because the massive sinkhole that opened up on Monday in front of their new home on East Nimisila Road is on private property.

The family says their brand new homeowners insurance won’t cover the damage either because the actual structure of the house wasn’t damaged, and that left Kayla Dowey joking “I guess one is supposed to purchase yard and driveway insurance.”

The family says they’ve been told the repairs will cost more than $20,000 and they’ve started a GoFundMe account to help raise money.

“We cannot believe the tremendous kindness, generosity and support we’ve already received,” Kayla said.
