Fire Damages Sandy Valley’s New Field

The Sandy Valley Cardinals started a new football season this year and for the first time it was on turf. Now they have to find a way to repair it. Fire broke out Wednesday afternoon when a golf cart being used by an assistant coach to bring equipment to the field caught fire.  Athetic Director Garth Evans says the coaches did a great job to make sure everyone was safe.  Some equipment was damaged as well.  They are hoping to repair the field to play the rest of the season at home, however Friday night’s game with Garaway is up in the air.  Evans says it is unbelievable how many Stark and Tuscarawas County school officials have contacted them and offered help or a field to play on.
