COUNCIL CHAOS: How to Proceed With Canton Governmental Business
CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – How does the business of the city of Canton proceed, after coming to a halt Monday night when the meeting had to be adjourned?
City leaders have less than a week to figure out what to do with the Public Speaks comment session at each meeting.
This, while trying to get ordinances passed, like the city’s proposed three-percent admissions tax designed to raise more operational funding.
Ward 4 member of council Chris Smith says what has been a regular public discussion on police brutality turned into shouting and arguing with city leaders, and that can’t happen.
Smith says she understands residents are frustrated.
She says they don’t understand why the officer who kicked a man in the chest isn’t facing a criminal charge.
Officer Brandon Momirov was fired.
But Smith says Monday night was really about people “shouting out” and arguing during an organized comment session.
