The Humane Society of the U.S. suggests shelters and rescues, but if you must adopt a specific breed, they say meet with the breeder and the premises and get all the paperwork.
The society’s 2020 Horrible Hundred list of the worst puppy breeders includes some in Sugarcreek, Dundee and Baltic.
