In Akron, Replacing One Massive Bridge With Two

AKRON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – Work begins in the next few months on replacement of the Route 8 High Level Bridge over the massive Cuyahoga River Valley in Akron.

The $154 million project actually replaces one bridge with two of them.

The northbound bridge will be built first, just to the east of the current bridge.

That will take a few years, with all Route 8 traffic moved to that new bridge.

The current bridge will then be demolished to make room for a new southbound span.

The entire project won’t be done until 2028.
