CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Indians recalled highly touted prospect outfielder Oscar Maercado from AAA Columbus.

To make room on the roster, the Indians placed Tyler Naquin on the 10-day Injured List, retroactive to May 11, while he recovers from his left calf strain.

Mercado, 24, has spent the 2019 season to date at Triple-A Columbus, batting .294 (35-for-119) with 10 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs and 15 RBI in 30 games (.396/.496/.891), stealing 14 bases in 17 attempts while scoring 24 runs.

He is currently leading the International League in steals, tied for sixth in doubles and ninth in extra-base hits (tied) and runs.  He has appeared in 28 games in center field, 5 games in left field and 4 games in right field while hitting .326 (14-for-43) with runners on base.

The Tampa, FL native was acquired last July from the St. Louis Cardinals, batting .400 (16-for-40) in exhibition play this spring in his first Major League camp with the Indians.

Today marks his Major League debut at the Major League level.
