It Really Is Fall: Deer Archery Season Starts Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – The deer season is starting.

Yes, gun season is still two months away.

But hunters with a compound bow can take to the woods starting Saturday.

There’s no hurry though.

The deer archery season lasts through February.

That season has now surpassed deer gun week in popularity.

Wildlife Management Supervisor Scott Peters with the ODNR Division of Wildlife says it helps that the breeding season peaks during the month of November.

Most hunters now use the Hunt Fish OH app.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife no longer provides an estimated deer count across the state.

But crop damage and other reports tell them that the population is up from last year at this time.

It’s the latest possible start for deer gun season this year, on December 2.
