Judge OKs $600 Million Norfolk Southern Settlement Agreement

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – The $600 million settlement of the East Palestine train derailment lawsuits filed against Norfolk Southern was finalized Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Benita Pearson in Youngstown.

Over 55,000 claims were made within 20 miles of the derailment.

Some people not happy with the settlement protested outside the courthouse.

Some complained attorneys fees were 27-percent of the settlement amount.

And others wanted more time to consider whether or not to file a claim.

The initial settlement agreement came in April.
