Longtime Public Servant Kirk Schuring Passes Away

Sen. Kirk Schuring (R-Canton), who has served in the General Assembly for decades, has died.

Schuring passed away after a long and courageous battle with several illnesses.  He was a regular guest for more than 5 years on Canton’s Morning News with Pam Cook and was a good friend of the radio station.  He is also known for authoring a lot of legislation that helped Stark County tremendously.

Former Canton Mayor Tom Bernabei was a dear friend.   He offered this: Kirk passed away last night, at home, very peacefully.

“Kirk he loved Canton and Stark County and was so very instrumental in bringing back to Stark County many millions of dollars to government and non-profits and programming and projects. He worked equally well with D’s and R’s. Instrumental in the development of Centennial Plaza. He wrote many significant state laws. A wonderful family man and friend.”

State Representative Scott Oelslager worked closely with Kirk

Speaker Pro Tempore Scott Oelslager (R-North Canton) today issued the following statement on the passing of State Senator Kirk Schuring:

“Today, I join my fellow Stark Countians and Ohioans in mourning the loss of a strong public servant and friend, Senator Kirk Schuring. Kirk loved serving the people of our community and state, and we are all better because of him. Kirk and I have been teammates for more than 30 years, and I will miss him dearly.  I extend my sincere condolences to Kirk’s wife, Darlene, his children, and the rest of his family and friends.”

Kirk Schuring was 72.
