Magnolia Mayor Race Could Come Down to Coin Flip

MAGNOLIA (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – While many towns found out last night who will be taking office at the start of the new year, the people of Magnolia are still waiting to know who is going to be Mayor.

Last nights unofficial results ended in a tie between Travis Boyd and Grant Downs. While for now the two are dead even, Travis Secrest with the Stark County Board of Elections says things are far from over. Late arrival absentee ballots and provisional ballots will both be counted during the next two weeks.

The winner will be announced officially on November 21, unless the tie remains. Then a recount will take place, which will be followed by a coin flip if the two remain deadlocked. Ironically enough, a coin toss is also how 40 year Mayor Bob Leach, who is on his way out, originally got into office.
