(ONN) – The first medical marijuana dispensaries in Ohio opened in January but months later participation in the state’s highly anticipated medical marijuana program isn’t what it could be.

More than 42,000 people can legally buy medical marijuana in Ohio.

But state records show, only half of them are taking advantage.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that patients cite cost as the biggest reason, with accessibility another big reason.

Only 18 of the 56 licensed dispensaries have been given approval to open.

And some patients say they’re worried about the quality of their medicinal cannabis.
