Massillon Special Meeting Addresses Failing Downtown Buildings

MASSILLON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – Four buildings have been torn down in downtown Massillon since the beginning of the year.

A few had partially collapsed before the wrecking ball came along.

Councilman Jamie Slutz wants to minimize that option in the future, especially with some buildings being over a hundred years old.

There’s a special meeting of council’s Health Welfare and Safety Committee at 5:30 Monday to address the issue.

It’s a real concern with some property owners not keeping their buildings up to code.

Slutz says the downtown needs to be preserved.
