Mayor Sherer’s Ticket, Parking Tax Measure Passes

CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – The city of Canton is poised to bring in more funding for economic development starting next year

In a special Canton City Council meeting Friday night, a three-percent admissions and parking tax was approved.

Starting January 1st, the tax will be added to tickets to events taking place in the city, and to parking facilities.

Public and on-street parking are excluded.

Mayor Bill Sherer says most cities have such taxes, even Sandusky.

Action was supposed to be taken a week ago, but the meeting ended early with some audience members yelling at council members and police.

Some residents complained in the Public Speaks segment Friday night that council handled it wrong.
