New North Carolina Elevator Law Named for Young Canton Accident Victim

RALEIGH, North Carolina (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – The tragic death of a Canton boy in an elevator shaft in an Outer Banks vacation condominium has led to a new North Carolina law that took effect over the weekend.

That law requires landlords to make adjustments and take other action when the elevator landing and car door don’t line up whern the car stops.

7-year-old Weston Androw got trapped underneath an elevator car last summer and died.

The new law is named in his memory.

Also, there’s a voluntary recall on some of those elevators.
