Ohio Farm Bureau Applauds SCOTUS Decision on Wetlands

COLUMBUS, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – The Ohio Farm Bureau says it’s good news for farmers and any property owner with a wetland on the property.

The Supreme Court ruled unanimously last week that the EPA has been going too far when enforcing the Clean Water Act, saying not every wetland is covered by that legislation.

In their written opinion, the high court says a wetland must have a direct connection with a river, creek, or other known waterway in order to be protected.

It may take some time now for the EPA to issue a new rule on the law, but the Supreme Court does provide a very clear interpretation.

A covered wetland is subject to restrictions both in it and nearby.
