Ohio Impacts From Helene: Flooding, Power Outages

NEW BOSTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – It didn’t take long for then-hurricane Helene to impact Ohio on Friday, then the remnants hung around the state for the weekend.

Wind gusts of 60 miles an hour were reported in southern Ohio Friday, and then there was the rain.

At the far end of southern Ohio, the Scioto County EMA says nearly four inches of rain fell in a short period of time in flash flooding in the Ohio River village of New Boston on Friday.

Governor Mike Dewine visited on Saturday morning, asked if the state can provide any help.

He says damage from the flood waters will be assessed.

Stranded drivers in nearby Portsmouth had to be rescued by boat on Friday.

There were also 60 mile per hour wind gusts in southern Ohio, leading to power outages.

AEP Ohio reported 8000 outages in southern Ohio as of 6:30 a.m. Monday, including 3100 in Scioto County.
