Tim Conway, the stellar second banana to Carol Burnett who won four Emmy Awards on her TV variety show, has died, according to his publicist. He was 85.

Conway died Tuesday morning after a long illness in Los Angeles, according to Howard Bragman, who heads LaBrea Media.  He was born in Willoughby Ohio in 1933.

Conway was born in Willoughby, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, and grew up in nearby Chagrin Falls.[2] He is Irish on his father’s side and Romanian on his mother’s.[3][4]

Conway attended Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, where he majored in television and radio and was a disc jockey,[5] and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.[6] When he graduated, Conway enlisted in the United States Army in 1956–1958

He also -portrayed the inept Ensign Parker in the 1960s World War II situation comedy McHale’s Navy, co-starred on the 1970s variety and sketch comedy program The Carol Burnett Show, starred as the title character in the Dorf series of comedy films, and provided the voice of Barnacle Boy in the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants.
