(News/Talk 1480 WHBC) – The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says its troopers will be out in force making sure the roads are safe over the 4th of July holiday.

Lt. Leo Shirkey says the Canton Post will be increasing patrols, with troopers focusing on removing impaired drivers from the roadways and enforcing traffic laws directly related to crash-causing violations.

He says troopers will also be paying special attention to distracted driving, failure to yield and seat belt violations.

The highway patrol’s aviation and commercial vehicle inspection sections will also be utilized.

The highway patrol says, as of July 2nd, nine fatal crashes have occurred in Stark County in 2019.
