(News/Talk 1480 WHBC) – A man’s facing charges after allegedly fleeing from Massillon police officers and crashing into a utility pole.

Police responded to the area of Lake Avenue NE and 3rd Street NE at around 6:40 Thursday morning on the report that someone was walking around homes in the area and appeared to be impaired.

Police say when they arrived on the scene the man, later identified as 29-year-old Lee Michael Deitrick, of Canton, got into a truck and sped off.

Police pursued the man north on Amherst Road NE and the man lost control of the truck and crashed into a utility pole.

He jumped from the truck and tried to run from officers but didn’t get far before he was taken into custody.

He suffered some minor injuries in the crash and was taken to a hospital to be treated.

Deitrick has been charged with OVI, resisting arrest and failure to comply with an order or signal from a police officer.
