Primary Election 2023: Canton Township Fire Back on Ballot

CANTON TWP., Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – The Canton Township Fire Department returns to the ballot with an issue which lost in November.

It’s a 4 mill replacement levy combined with a 1.9 mill increase, all under Issue 3.

Chief Chris Smith says they continue to struggle to keep firefighters.

They’d like to have enough paid staff to keep five first responders on duty at all times.

It’s a five-year levy.

Chief Smith says it’ll cost the average homeowner another $12 a month.

Smith says they’re using more social media and other media outreach during this campaign.

They may even go door-to-door.
