Primary Election 2023: CCSD Hoping to Approve Bond Issue for New Buildings

CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – The Canton City School District hopes to renew a bond issue that expires at the end of this year.

It’s the 4.3 mill levy that’s been on the books for many years, but will cost just a bit more starting in 2024.

It’s another $19 a year for a property owner with $100,000 in valuation, says Paul Palumba who heads the teachers union in the district.

The $60-million to be raised over the proposed 36 years of the bond issue will build two new K-to-6 elementary schools at the Souers and Mason school sites.

Palumba tells our Pam Cook it’ll bring the district back to the community school concept, keeping the kids in the same building for six years…

It also means repairs to other buildings.

Early voting is underway now.
