Residents Back Home After Thursday Chemical Fire

AKRON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – Residents are back in their homes and the Akron Fire Department reports the air quality in the area around a chemical fire is within normal limits.

This, after an evacuation and lengthy firefight at a building housing SMB Products on Rosemary Blvd on Thursday.

The department got the call early in the afternoon, seeing flames and heavy smoke on arrival.

SMB employees were able to escape safely.

The fire was under control at 7:30 and residents permitted to return to their homes at 8 p.m.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury.

The department remained on the scene and air quality continued to be checked.

No word on what chemicals were involved.
