CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – SARTA is now saying it will lay off 30 employees due to its financial situation.
In addition, five routes are being eliminated in February, and the service will announce a reworked ProLine service on January 10.
Collections from the .25-percent Stark County sales tax are down five-percent this year, and that’s the expectation next year.
In September alone, the sales tax brought in $1.44 million, down nine-percent from the same month last year.
The routes being eliminated are the late-night loops 151, 152 and 153 as well as the Success Express and Community Circulator routes.
SARTA CEO Kirt Conrad says changes that were in the works are now being accelerated.
