SARTA Impacted by Lower Revenue, to Explain Cuts at Meetings

CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – A series of public meetings on proposed reductions in SARTA services is taking place Thursday and Friday.

The biggest change will be impacting those with disabilities who use the ProLine point-to-point paratransit services.

Because of declining sales tax revenue and federal requirements, the countywide version of ProLine service looks to be ending on February 10 of next year.

SARTA CEO Kirt Conrad says they will explain the cuts and talk about possible substitute services at the public meetings.

A couple of routes and some late-night loop service are also impacted.

Revenue from the .25-percent sales tax is down a million dollars this year.

And that’s what they are forecasting for next year.

Here’s the meeting schedule, per SARTA:

The meetings will be on Thursday, November 21st, 2024, from 9:30AM – 10:30AM and 12:30PM to 1:30PM in the McKinley Room at the Stark County District Library, located at 715 Market Ave N, Canton, OH 44702. Attendance space is LIMITED.

Additional meetings will take place on Friday, November 22nd, 2024, from 1:30PM to 2:30PM at SARTA’s Massillon Transit Center (227 Tommy Henrich Dr. NW, Massillon, OH 44647).

And from 4:30PM to 5:30PM at SARTA’s Phyllis Beyers Alliance Transit Center (10 Prospect St. at S. Union – Alliance).
