Stark Jail Renovation Talks Get Serious

CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – Talk about renovating two sections of the Stark County Jail that date back to 1964 is getting serious.

The sheriff told commissioners last week that there are plumbing and electrical issues in those areas of the jail.

County leaders and the sheriff are looking at grants and possible federal funding.

A construction law firm would also need to be hired.

But one thing’s for sure says Commissioner Bill Smith, there won’t be a tax increase to pay for it.

Local money will come from funds already put away from the sales tax.

The jail is averaging about 450 inmates a day.
