Stark Legislator Advances Bill Putting Caps on Late Fees for Municipal Incomes Taxes

COLUMBUS, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – He took office in Columbus in January, and he already has seen a bill of his advance to the House floor.

State Representative Jim Thomas of Jackson Township sponsored House Bill 105.

It puts a $25 cap on what municipalities can charge in fees for residents who file their income taxes late.

The legislation has moved out of the Ways and Means Committee.

Thomas’s office says some cities and villages charge as much as $150 in late fees.

The city of Canton is part of Thomas’s 49th district.
