Not many people are heading to Ohio for their summer vacation. A recent study based on census data by IPX 1031 says the Buckeye state is the second least popular spot to have a vacation home.

Just 1.08 percent of houses in Ohio are registered as vacation homes. Ohio is just one of many states in the Midwest whose residents are not on a summer stay. Other states such as Iowa, Indiana and Kansas can all be found near the bottom of the list as well.

The few vacation homes in Ohio can be found in three areas more than anywhere else:

  • Kelleys Island (86% vacation homes)
  • Put-in-Bay (84% vacation homes)
  • Lakeside (63% vacation homes)

Illinois is the lone state below Ohio at one percent while Maine leads all states with 19% of its homes being registered as vacation properties.
