SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – Thousands of Springfield residents in the U.S. on Temporary Protected Status look to be headed back to their homeland in Haiti in February of 2026.
That’s when protected status for that country ends.
President-elect Donald Trump has made it clear he wants those immigrants sent back.
U.S. Senator-elect Bernie Moreno says there’s time now to replace those workers, with over a year before action takes place.
Governor Mike DeWine says those Haitians play an important role in Springfield’s economy.
The Temporary Protected Status program covers countries in crisis, and Haiti would still fit that definition at this time.
That’s why the program was put in place.
