Turnpike Suspending Late Fees, Fines

BEREA, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – Beset with complaints about billing while dealing with a “smishing” scam, the Ohio Turnpike says it is suspending collection of late fees and fines.

It is also not referring unpaid bills to the BMV.

The turnpike commission says their phones were deluged with calls on Monday after the mailing of unpaid toll invoices.

For now, drivers are being asked to fill out an online form for any billing issues.

Smishing is the use of text messaging to try and collect payments.

The turnpike does not do that.
