(ONN) – The University of Akron says it is partnering with Barberton City Schools to allow students to take classes in cybersecurity.

An international cybersecurity nonprofit says there is a worldwide shortage in cybersecurity professionals.

Barberton students will now be able to earn up to 15 hours of college credits in the university’s cybersecurity program before high school graduation or earn certifications to allow them to find a job immediately after high school.

U of A’s cybersecurity program launched in the fall 2017.

About 68 students declared cybersecurity as their major in spring 2018, with about 74 students declaring last fall.
