Update on Canton’s Quest for Recompete Program Grant

CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – We told you back in December that Canton was one of 22 finalists for four to perhaps eight $20 million Recompete Program grants.

Those would help hundreds of residents ages 25 to 44 in parts of southeast and southwest Canton get back into the workforce.

So what could such a program look like?

Canton Economic Development Director Chris Hardesty says it could mean transportation, even a car, as well as child care, mental health assistance and more.

Strengthening Stark is leading the way in getting the final application in by late April.

If the city is successful, the program could roll out next year.

They learned in December that Canton was one of 22 semi-finalist cities for the program, and the only one in Ohio.
