(News/Talk 1480 WHBC) – The price tag for improvements at the McKinley Grand Hotel in Canton could run upwards of $23 million.

That’s the investment that Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village is considering making in the downtown landmark, in addition to the estimated $4 million purchase price.

Mayor Tom Bernabei says the proposed 15-year 75-percent tax abatement on those improvements is a good deal for everyone, including the city school district.

Council is expected to vote on that abatement in two weeks.

The mayor says little updating has been done to the building in many years.
